Sometimes we let our
emotions get the better of us. This is normal because we are all human but it’s
important to ensure that it doesn’t strain the relationship we have with people
whom we respect and cherish.
As such, we also cannot
let someone like Raja Petra Kamaruddin to create a wedge between us and the
Chinese community in the country.
Raja Petra is one person
who loves the limelight and would use any means possible to enjoy it.
Just like his baseless
allegation that Tan Sri Robert Kuok gave a huge donation to the Opposition
Democratic Action Party (DAP), he recently accused me of being in Tan Sri
Vincent Tan’s pocket.
Raje Petra is a
disillusioned individual who was only too happy to jump ship as and when it
pleased him.
He was an ardent
supporter of former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, only to
condemn him after leaving Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Before this unfortunate
incident, he was singing praises of UMNO until he turned coat, of course.
And he has been spewing
venom about our leadership after residing in the UK.
In May 2010, I called on
the government to strip Raja Petra of his citizenship on the grounds that his
activities could affect the peace of the country.
As a Prime Minister for
all Malaysians, YAB Datuk Seri Najib Razak has intervened quickly to put a stop
to the childish bickering amongst different groups following the allegation
against Tan Sri Robert.
This is commendable.
We have a healthy relationship
with the various communities in Malaysia, including the Chinese.
The Malaysian Chinese
has contributed to the socioeconomic and political development in the country.
The country also enjoys
a strong bond with China.
YAB Datuk Seri Najib has
recently said that CHINA’S business community is one of Malaysia’s partners in
developing Malaysia into a high-income and skilled nation.
Total bilateral trade
between Malaysia and China last year remained strong at US$96.3 billion
(RM376.5 billion) in spite of the uncertainty in the global economy.
According to the Prime
Minister, the milestones of this relationship included the successful
establishment of the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park and the
Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park between 2012 and 2013.
Our country is strong
because of the diversity in terms of multi-languages, multi-cultures and
multi-religions.
UMNO has always prided
itself in the celebration of unity in diversity and worked hard to maintain the
racial and religious harmony in the country as enshrined in the Federal
Constitution.
I hope to see this
continue in our beloved country under the able leadership of YAB Datuk Seri
Najib Razak and UMNO.
